Loteria is a Mexican bingo like game that is often played with friends and family. The rules are simple, the first person to fill up their game card wins. One person is in charge of calling out the cards as they are drawn randomly. Everyone from Mexico knows what this game is and may even be a part of many people’s childhood. I wanted to draw from this experience and create a poster that is a loteria card but showcases funny or relatable things from being Mexican. The messages may be hidden or not really clear since is relies on slang and experiences. For example The cure spot is a Vick’s Vapor bottle. El Sabado is a broom with music notes since Saturday’s are meant to be cleaning days.
I first illustrated digitally and then screenprinted the poster. The screenprint poster has a beige layer on top to create the effect that is has been used or loved since cards that have wear and tear means they have been played and enjoyed.
