COIN’s rebrand encapsulates the quality of hand-drawn type bright colors, and bold patterns inspired by psychedelic art. Even though this rebrand is not meant to resemble feelings of “tripping out” like original psychedelic posters, it is in fact meant to “awaken the mind” as the latin words of psyche and delos mean or the same effect that is felt when listening to the band’s newest album. The entire look is meant to bring fans and new listeners together in the same way that psychedelia was able to bring a generation together in the 1960s.
COIN is the type of band that I can listen to on repeat for days and not even notice how long I have been listening to them since I enjoy it so much. Even though their music is not described as psychedellic or rock at all, there was something about their newest album that made me think of psychedellic music posters. I think it has to do with the bold colors and patterns that characterize that style of design. Or it could have something to do with the hand done typography of those posters that I felt could fit so nicely with COIN’s recent album. There is a connection that the band members have with their audience that is so genuine that I felt had to be replicated with a new look that was not mechanical and instead focused on the hand made quality of the overall design.
